Xstrata publishes an annual Sustainable Development Report detailing the proactive measures that we take to achieve our goal of meeting world-class environmental standards at all of our recycling operations.
The following permits are generally applicable to any industrial facility and are held by each Xstrata Recycling facility as required by the relevant local governmental authorities:

Xstrata Recycling – East Providence, Rhode Island
- Furnaces registered under the EPA Boiler and Industrial Furnace Rule (BIF)
- Export registrations for scrap shipments to Canada
Horne Smelter – Rouyn-Noranda, Québec
- Certificate of Authorization (C.A.) from the Québec Ministry of the Environment and Wildlife, which permits the operation to process recyclable materials including materials classified as hazardous waste under Canadian regulations
- Waste import approvals from Environment Canada for various scrap and waste
