| Q: | What metals do you recycle? |
| A: | Most of the metals recycling done by Xstrata Recycling is carried out at the Horne copper smelter in Rouyn-Xstrata, Québec. The Horne recovers copper, gold, silver, platinum and palladium, all of which are payable. The precious metals and platinum group metals are collected in the copper anode produced at the Horne, which is transported to the CCR refinery in Montréal, Québec, for further processing. CCR produces pure copper, gold and silver, but the final refining of platinum group metals is completed by third parties. The Kidd smelter in Timmins, Ontario, also pays for copper, gold, silver, platinum and palladium. Kidd's precious metals and platinum group metals are processed mainly at CCR. The Kidd smelter also treats some zinc-bearing secondaries.
Metals recycled at other operations include nickel, cobalt, gold, silver, platinum and palladium at Xstrata Nickel's smelter in Falconbridge, Ontario (near Sudbury), and lead, gold and silver at Xstrata Zinc's Brunswick smelter in Belledune, New Brunswick. Xstrata Zinc's Canadian Electrolytic Zinc refinery (CEZinc) located in Valleyfield, Québec, recycles some clean zinc oxides, but otherwise has limited metallurgical capability to treat zinc secondaries. |

| Q: | What is Xstrata Recycling's "Maple" spec? |
| A: | Xstrata Recycling's "Maple" spec for No. 2 copper is "beryllium-free material in the form of uncoated wire, tubing, sheet copper, roofing gutters and downspouts. Packaged in unwrapped loose bales only, not exceeding 6,000 lbs, strapped to sturdy wooden pallets." |

| Q: | Will I have to pay for recycling? |
| A: | Generally, Xstrata Recycling will pay clients for a fixed percentage of the recoverable metal content, less the smelting and refining charges. In many cases the payable metal value far exceeds the charges, so the client receives a payment from us. However, for some materials the recoverable metal value may be less than the charges, in which case our clients will wind up making a payment to us. Recycling of lower value materials at environmentally sound facilities eliminates landfill or prevents other less desirable treatment alternatives. |

| Q: | What about environment, health and safety? |
| A: | Xstrata Recycling and Xstrata are committed to the principles of sustainable development. Our goal is to meet world-class health and safety standards in every one of our facilities, including our recycling operations. These standards are designed to ensure the security of our employees, clients, the public and the environment. | Q: | Can you recycle hazardous materials? |
| A: | Yes. The Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA) requires us to obtain import approvals for hazardous recyclable materials shipped to our Canadian facilities from outside of Canada. We manage the entire CEPA process, and provide detailed instructions to our clients for completion of the required movement documents. Materials that are regulated in the country of origin can also be recycled. Our Certificate of Authorization to operate the Horne smelter does not permit us to handle or treat free-standing liquids (e.g., oil, water). However, damp or moist materials are acceptable. |
